What's Happening?

Round four of chemo is off to a roaring start, but I have gotten through the toughest two days and am back up and power-kaling (my new favorite word…and it means I eat kale at every meal to keep myself from becoming anemic). I throw in sweet potatoes and top with toasted coconut and avocado. YUM. I’ve also become 100% plant-based, so if you hate me and want to click off now, I will understand. But, I’ve just managed to confirm the definition of a vegan (someone who tells you she’s vegan in the first 5 minutes.) I watched two Netflix docs that convinced me to lose the animal products (except for the occasion slice of Miami’s Best Pizza): What the Health and The Game Changers.

Enough about food…though I will tell you it’s working..the chemo. My bad numbers are now good. That’s chemo talk for I AM KICKING CANCER’S ASS!!!! And it’s all thanks to my elephants. If you have no idea what that means, check out our camo/elephant hat page. You can join the herd, start one of your own or give to a great cause—The Pink Wig Project.

Andrea and I are working on a new episode that will launch this WED, Nov 6th. We will bring you a story that came to us through someone we love like crazy, Ariel Henley. Her essay examines the definition of beauty and was published in Narratively. After her story ran, she landed a book deal. We sat down with Ariel and Ariel’s editor at Narratively (who is now at Catapult), Lilly Dancyger, who gave use the inside scoop on how to get published.

If our monthly launch is not enough for you, join us on Patreon. My online/Zoom writer’s club meets every Tuesday 12-1 ET. ($25 monthly donation). Andrea’s publishing conversations is ongoing and is so helpful to those wanting to get published. ($10 monthly donation).

Thank you so much for reading…and listening,

Allison + Andrea
